Art That Tells Their Story

Art That Tells Their Story

I love a good story.

I watch movies and read - if the story sucks, I'll stop watching or skip the rest of the book. Seriously, I don't think I'm at an age where I won't waste my time on something that does not hold my interest. Is the story told well? Is it predictable? Wait, what will be my story? I think about my own obituary some days and wonder - what will my family say about me? Which led me to - am I living the life I want? Do most people?

As I've been venturing on this project - Spooky Snail Mail Club - I did some digging into obituaries, stories about people and the last things they've said and regrets they've had. I also took into account the stories from clients that I've done memorial work for.  While doodling this all out, I realized that I'm not living the creative life I'd like. It's not an easy task to align a creative life and carve it into how you make a living. At least for me - I'm determined to make this happen for myself.

Ultimately, I also wanted to make something that is meaningful - a little weird story with some cool art. I'm making these obituaries (tiny stories of the delightfully doomed) and see where it takes us. What was their weird little story? I want my club members to get excited about receiving little handmade bits, stickers and the anticipation of reading the Afterlife Gazette. Most of all, reading the obituary and seeing how they are living *cough* their Afterlife. Who doesn't love a good story?

I love your faces,
