Sometimes, an unfinished piece can have a life of its own - capturing something so raw and beautiful that it’s almost complete just as it is. I’ve been working on a watercolor portrait, and the eyes of the subject are mesmerizing; they seem to carry a depth, a story I can’t quite put into words. It’s as if they’re inviting me to pause, to wait for... something.
I stared at her for some time - I learned early in my artwork that sometimes you just have to look at it for bit to get what's going on. I worked on other paintings and one day came across some part pencils - Berol Verithin. This brand was different - the leads were a lot harder, not as soft as Crayolas or Artezas that I already had. I love the detail it can give me with my pieces. I did a little research and found they'd been bought out by Prismacolor. The ones I had were from Makeropolis and old - so I was a little nervous to see if Prismacolor had changed anything about them. I ordered a set - not a thing had changed! The variety of colors - now I can finish this painting!
There’s something magical in the process, in letting the art breathe and evolve. The eyes speak, and for now, I’m glad I waited - just listening, waiting for that moment when the piece will feel whole.
